Fatal motor vehicle collision south of Langruth

      Highway 50 near Langruth, Man.
      September 18, 2008

On September 18, 2008 at 8:22 p.m. RCMP Amaranth Detachment were dispatched to a two vehicle collision on Highway 50 - 5 miles south of Langruth.

RCMP Amaranth and EMS are currently on scene and preliminary investigation confirm that a deer ran across Highway 50 while a vehicle driven by an 16 year old male driver travelling north, took evasive action and in doing so crossed the center line resulting in a head-on collision with the lone driver travelling south.

The lone adult male driver who was travelling south on Highway 50 is an area resident. He has been confirmed deceased. His identity is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. The four occupants of the other vehicle suffered undetermined injuries.

Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor to this collision. This collision does not involve any police vehicle or ambulance contrary to some media reports. Two private vehicles are involved. No other details are available tonight. The investigation continues.
